Summary

The session covered four key time management principles.

  1. Planning Fallacy: People underestimate how long tasks take and overestimate what they can do. This causes stress, guilt, and last minute cramming. The fix is adding buffer time, for example planning 1.5 to 2 times longer for new or difficult tasks.

2 Parkinson’s Law:Work expands to fill the time you give it. Vague tasks like “study biology” invite procrastination. Clear, short, and specific time blocks with when, where, and what lead to better focus and faster work.

3 Decision Fatigue: Making many daily decisions drains mental energy and increases procrastination. Planning ahead with time blocking reduces resistance and helps protect energy for important tasks.

4 Eisenhower Matrix: Tasks should be sorted by importance and urgency. Important but not urgent tasks should be scheduled early to prevent stress later. Time wasting tasks should be removed.

How it all fits together:

Start by prioritizing with the Eisenhower Matrix. Use time blocking to reduce decisions and control Parkinson’s Law. Add buffer time to account for the Planning Fallacy. These skills improve with practice and better awareness of your own pace.

Key takeaway: Time management is a learnable life skill. Mastering it early creates long term clarity, consistency, and better results.
